Newly discovered audio tapes have been recently released by the National Archives that reveal what happened inside Air Force one moments after the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. The tape is two hours and twenty-two minutes long and has never before been heard by the public. It should be noted that this audio release is entirely different from the previous batch of recordings recently made public by the John F. Kennedy Library.

The Atlantic Wire | Only Guilty Marine in the Haditha Massacre Faces Three Months in Jail

In a Camp Pendleton courtroom, a judge finally sentenced the last of the eight Marines accused of murdering two dozen Iraqi civilians in Haditha, ten of whom were women and children. After striking a plea bargain that reduced the charge from murder to “voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and dereliction of duty stemming from the November 19, 2005” event, Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich pleaded guilty and now “faces a maximum sentence of three months of confinement, forfeiture of two-thirds of his pay for three months and a reduction in rank when he is sentenced on Tuesday,” according to Reuters. A Thai television director’s decision to marry his dead girlfriend and post photos and video of the event to Facebook and YouTube is drawing mixed reaction from the public.

Chadil Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, married his girlfriend of 10 years, Sarinya “Anne” Kamsook, early this month as she lay in a coffin in a wedding-cum-funeral at a temple in Surin Province, the Pattaya Daily News reported. (full story)

But along the way, a few miracles happened (including landing a job that doesn’t suck), and I’ve finally found myself living the way I always pictured a normal person would: bills paid, groceries in the fridge and two gold-plated nude statues of myself standing proudly in my front yard. The Atlantic | Rick Santorum’s Tragic Yearbook Photo Comes Back to Haunt Him

If there’s been one overarching theme to the Republican presidential primary in the last week or two, it’s been that past coming back to haunt the contenders. For Newt Gingrich, there’s thecoming interview with his second ex-wife, Marianne, in which she accuses him of asking for an open marriage. For Mitt Romney, it’s been his career in private equity, a credential that seemed custom-made for the business-friendly GOP but has instead proved a millstone around his neck.

What about Rick Santorum, you ask? Clearly, it’s this embarrassing yearbook photo, which The Atlantic first unearthed in May 2011 and which has been making the rounds around the Internet on Thursday. On the trail in South Carolina on Wednesday, Santorum — in a not-so-veiled swipe at Gingrich — said that he’s never so much as sat on a couch with a woman other than his wife. It’s tempting to blame that on the sideburns and vaguely flowered shirt seen in this photo, but, hey, it was the ’70s. (full story)

McLEAN, Virginia (AP) — One of the world’s most popular file-sharing sites was shuttered Thursday, and its founder and several company officials were accused of facilitating millions of illegal downloads of films, music and other content.

An indictment accused Megaupload.com of costing copyright holders at least $500 million in lost revenue. The indictment was unsealed one day after websites including Wikipedia and Craigslist shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to make it easier for authorities to go after websites with pirated material, especially those with headquarters and servers overseas. ProPublica | SOPA Opera Update: Opposition Surges

As popular Internet sites shut down or blacked out in protest on Wednesday, users flooded our SOPA Opera news application and inboxes to let us know what their members of Congress were saying about SOPA.

When we first launched SOPA Opera, few members in Congress – besides the bills’ co-sponsors and its initial opponents – had made their opinion known on the proposed laws to regulate the Internet. That changed on Wednesday. Responses from constituents and Congressional staffers kept us busy updating the site past midnight.

The response was overwhelmingly one-sided against the bill. This graphic shows the likely vote tallies for SOPA Opera at the beginning of the day Wednesday and the likely tallies as of early Thursday. (full story)
